What this site is (or rather will be) all about
At the moment, this site is still pretty empty. However, this site
should become a source of information for people moving to Switzerland
trying to integrate. Integration can be a very difficult process as one
has to discover, understand and
acquire specific behaviors of a culture, while preserving one's own
roots and identity. Every culture has lots of unspoken rules. Locals
know them and act accordingly - and disapprove, if someone else
doesn't. Yet, disapproval itself might not be shown in an obvious
manner, making it rather confusing for a foreigner to understand what
is going on. Misunderstandings are a possible consequence. Many of
those are not necessary. Hopefully, this site will be able to prevent
some.
The goals it to create - step by step - an interactive
site that allows Swiss and foreigners in Switzerland to interact, ask
questions and offer answers.
From the first steps when moving to Switzerland to the do's and don'ts
once you are here. My idea is not to fill this site with my own (after
all fairly limited) perspective. I rather hope to attract many people
to contribute in a meaningful way. If you want to stay informed about
what is going on here and how you can contribute, then simply register
for the newsletter. Don't worry. I do this in my free time. The risk of
having your mailbox filled with my newsletters is fairly small...
Migration
is a fact. Especially in a globalized world we are living in. Rather
than trying to negate or to demonize it (like some of the political
parties in Switzerland), it is the goal of this website to help get the
best out of migration. The better people integrate into a culture, the
more the culture and society can profit from it - and thus helps
creating lots of win-win situations....
